Alexa Madison's Teaching Style

The student will get to learn how to read the staff starting day 1! Our music lessons are designed and adapted for every individual to focus on their strengths and weaknesses since everyone has a different learning style. Games and activities are used as a supplement for lessons teaching students to understand note reading and rhythms in a fun and encouraging way.

Every student will be introduced to a variety of learning including composition, improvisation, music theory, and styles of music they're interested in playing whether that's jazz, classical piano, movie music, etc. And if they haven't discovered what they enjoy playing yet, your piano teacher will create a lesson plan help with that!

Music Challenges

Our students love the competition! Every month there is a challenge or competition to encourage students to practice more at home. For example, for one month we did a raffle where they get to participate for every time they practice. This makes the most use out of every lesson with your teacher. Other challenges also are designed to help the student with music theory.

Year round we give out points to encourage students musical goals for finishing music and challenges. Students get to use their points to purchase prizes and the top students with most points earn trophies! We also celebrate their achievements on our studio walls or TV to make the student feel good about their successes in music education!

Piano Performance

Outside every lesson, we host multiple performance opportunities throughout the year to allow our young musicians to show their growth and allow them to gain confidence in their playing. Twice a year we'll host two formal music recitals (May and October) with different themes. Students will all come together dressed up! It's always a memorable event.

In between our recitals, we'll also host "Music Open House Parties" which are "low-key" performance events in which your music teacher will guide the student along the way. During these events they get to drop in anytime, hang out with their peers and teacher play games, and perform music! In addition we'll host other performance opportunities including participating at Kiwanis Easter Parade and performing live at local coffee shops.

Our Lab Room

During the piano class, our students ages 5+ get access to our lab room activities that features music theory in a way that's engaging. This includes note reading, rhythms, composition, improvisation, etc. and it all reinforces what they learn during their piano practice time. Our group lessons are an hour long and includes 40 minutes on the piano and 20 minutes with our lab room activities (music theory).

Despite the students being in a group lesson format, every kid gets to learn at their own pace and receive one-on-one guidance from their piano teacher.

FAQs

Q: Where is Alexa's Piano Lessons located?

A: Our piano studio is located in Ahwatukee next to Arrivederci. Our address is 4221 E Chandler Blvd Phoenix AZ 85048.

Q: How much do weekly piano lessons cost?

A: 60 minute weekly group lessons is a flat rate of $140 a month billed on autopay the last day of each month.

Q: How does my child learn at their own pace in group piano lessons?

A: Each student gets their own full-sized keyboard during the lesson. Everyone begins together with a short warm-up, then the teacher listens in to each student one at a time, giving personalized feedback and guidance. While that student works independently to apply the suggestions, the teacher rotates to the next student. This structure allows students to progress at their own pace, develop effective practice habits, and build the confidence to become independent learners.

Q: Can I drop off my child during piano classes, or should I stay?

A: You can do either one depending on what you and your child is comfortable with! But for most students I recommend dropping off to give the students more of a private experience and allows students to learn independently as they act different when their parents are around.

Q: How much should my child be practicing the piano?

A: We suggest beginning piano students ages 5-7 to practice at least 10 minutes daily. Beginning students aged 8 and older are to practice at least 15 minutes daily. More experienced students should practice at least 20 minutes daily. Of course, if the student is not progressing enough with that amount of practice we would suggest more practice than that. It also depends on the student as well so we're not strict on the number of minutes they are practicing.

Q: Do we need to bring our piano books every lesson?

A: Yes! We specifically use the student's books to write customized notes in there. We use the books to keep track of the songs/pieces they've finished (with a sticker). Plus there are written pages in there that we need to check in person.

Q: Does a keyboard work for piano lessons?

A: Of course! We recommend to have an 88-key weighted keyboard at home for long-term practice at home allowing the child to play dynamics. For short-term we understand feeling weary about purchasing a higher-end keyboard for a beginner. We offer keyboard rentals at just $20 a month as long as you need it! Your child can also start off with a non-weighted keyboard for the first year before upgrading as we understand the upfront costs of keyboards.
